While the subtropical climate of Hervey Bay means we have good weather year-round, summer calls for getting onto the water and keeping extra cool. Here’s 6 reasons why a sailing adventure is just what the doctor ordered this year;
You can have a Christmas holiday without bumper to bumper traffic
Does the thought of taking the whole family away only to be met with gridlock traffic, kids screaming and crowds galore make you just want to huddle up at home? Trade the endless car rides for open spaces on the water this summer. A sailing holiday provides all the room you could possibly need, no crowds AND you get to watch the sun rise and set on the water…win,win.
Seeing World Heritage-listed Fraser Island from a different perspective
Incase you didn’t know already, we have a World Heritage-listed gem in our backyard here on the Fraser Coast and it comes in the form of the largest sand island in the world, Fraser Island. Travelling the coast of this island by boat will help you appreciate just how massive and impressive this island is. The remote western side of island provides stunning views of white sandy beaches and crystal clear waters.
Cool off from those hot summer days in crystal clear waters
Queensland summer’s aren’t for the faint hearted but there’s no need to sweat it out when you’ve got a big wide ocean full of swimming spots at your feet (literally). Spots like Pelican Bank between Hervey Bay and Fraser Island provide the perfect opportunity for you to jump in the tender or climb straight off the back of the boat for a dip.
Give the kids some outdoor education away from those screens
One of our favourites things about being out on the water for a few days? Dropping the phones and screens to soak up the great outdoors. You can bring the kids (and kids at heart) along for the journey and let them build up sailing skills and teach them a love for the ocean. If they aren’t into pitching in? We’ve got a host of board games for the family to get stuck into and create some quality memories together.
Check out the local wildlife underwater with some of the best snorkelling spots (straight off the boat)
Pack those masks and snorkels – because just like our neighbours up in North Queensland, the Fraser Coast has lots of hidden spots for you to explore underwater. Our best pick of the bunch is Wathumba Creek, where you’ll find a host of marinelife including turtles, rays and more.
World class fishing spots in paradise
This is one for the fishos – pack the rods and join us in paradise where you’ll find one of the most diverse fisheries in Australia. The Great Sandy Strait provides epic spots to catch a range of species year round with added views of Fraser Island as a bonus.
